Faithfully: Journey

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rj__jhmPMgI My Commentary: One of my favorite, if not my favorite Journey song. Once again, another heartfelt love song. One of my favorite verses in this song comes in the bridge: "Two strangers learn to fall in love again." What power there is behind that verse. The intimacy of Steve Perry's voice and the piano really add to the ambiance the song gives off. I am almost saddened this song came up on the third day, because it is almost too good to come this early.

Come on Get Higher: Matt Nathanson

It has a very hopeful tone an a chorus that basically everyone can sing along to. It was a song about falling in love. As I listen to the lyrics now, I find them to be more metaphorical, which I find to be a skill when assessing any singer/songwriters work.

Song of the Day: May 29th

Song: Hymn to the Fallen Artist: John Williams, Boston Symphony Orchestra Link to Song : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6m4C-JrYus My Commentary : This classic by John Williams was featured in the soundtrack for Saving Private Ryan. It is a touching and emotional song. The choral voices blend well with the strings and horns creating an almost haunting sound. The  snare in the background remind us of the songs military roots. It is only fitting to have Hymn to the Fallen as the inaugural song of the day on this Memorial Day. A day of remembrance.

Song of the Day

Hello, This is my opportunity to explore an area of my life that I enjoy exploring: music. I may not be able to play an instrument, but I sure can listen to music. So I thought I would share that interest with all of you. The purpose of this blog is to hopefully introduce new music to many of you, while also learning more about the music I listen to and develop a greater appreciation for that music. There will undoubtedly be repeats in artists, but hey, I choose the songs right? I hope this song of the day sparks conversation, or maybe an interest in a new artist not previously known. I also am interested in requests, so if any of you want to suggest a song, or an artist, I will do my best to ensure your voice is heard. Happy listening! Nick Rethemeier
