My Commentary: This is quintessential Maher. The lyrics are incredibly relatable. It has a little bit of an edge too, which is pretty fascinating, especially for Christian Contemporary Music. I really like the paradoxes Maher utilizes when he says "You called and you shouted, broke through my deafness." It's lyrics like that which show the power of the message Maher is proclaiming.

I hated it and thought it was a really stupid song. As I move on from that concert, I begin to see this song as it is. A song that I can't help but tap my feet to. It is a ridiculously fun song that deserves belongs in the annals of history as one of those end-of-sporting-event-songs that are easy to sing to and groove along to.

Valerie: Mark Ronson (Ft. Amy Winehouse)

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pAz9UpnRKw My Commentary: Fun fact, this song is not actually by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse, it is actually by a band called the Zutons-take a minute to listen to that version if you have time, it is really good. But this is Amy's song. Mark Ronson is incredibly accomplished, so that is just a testament to Amy's abilities. Amy Winehouse was a maestro and this song only backs it up. She is so talented. Her raspy voice fits a jazz club perfectly. The up tempo nature of Valerie only backs up Amy's claim as being one of the best female vocalists of our generation. It is a shame she passed away so soon. Thankfully she left behind some of the greatest works of the 2000s.

Told from the perspective of God, this song is a refreshing look at the relationship between God and man. It speaks of struggles of pain, trust, and belief. The lyrics are complimented by lead singer Jon Foreman's honest, stripped voice. It is a song that forces the listener to reflect on their own relationship with God.
